Bulawayo

Possibly a nod to the Ndebele ethnic group who make up the majority of the population here, Bulawayo, also the second largest city in Zimbabwe is also known as the City of Kings.
Bulawayo is home to the National Railway of Zimbabwe and to commemorate this privilege, the people have created a rare and fascinating Railway Museum complete with steam locomotives, rolling stock and station buildings. It can take up to 18 hours to get to Victoria Falls from Bulawayo, but then it is also one of the easiest and most scenic routes to enjoy.
A short drive out of tree-lined streets paved with heritage Victorian buildings, your Bulawayo tour guide will escort you to the UNESCO world heritage site of the Khame Ruins. This ancient compound of Iron Age ruins is complemented by a small museum housing found artefacts some of which are over 100,000 years old. In close vicinity lie the dramatic landscapes of the Matabo National Park, or as it is romantically known, ‘The View of the World’, which boasts Nswatugi cave paintings. For a kid friendly outing, the Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage will be a definite draw on their nurturing instincts towards the orphaned and sick wild animals housed there.
