Menai Bay Conservation Area Tour
- Meet your tour guide at the agreed-upon location in Zanzibar and begin the tour to Menai Bay Conservation Area. Established in August 1997 in a fishing area of the island, its tropical marine environment includes extensive coral reefs, a variety of tropical fish, seagrasses, and mangroves.
- Learn how the initiatives of the MBCA focus on controlling illegal fishing, replanting mangroves, growing trees, and promoting tourism. Menai Bay is also a sea-turtle breeding area with coral reefs, rich marine life, and dense mangroves. Encompassing the southwest corner of Zanzibar, it includes several small islands and sandbanks, each with its own healthy coral reef. Zanzibar’s traditional boats, the dhows, carry tourists to snorkel on the reefs, picnic on the islands and swim with dolphins and whales. Here, the Indian Ocean waters are crystal-clear allowing perfect viewing of the coral reefs and tropical marine life. Non-snorkelers can spend the day relaxing on the beach, sunbathing and exploring the island’s paths and tidal pools.
