The itinerary

Day 01

Arrival in Lhasa and Acclimatization

  • Arrive in Lhasa either by train or by flight. Your guide will greet you and take you to your hotel.

  • En route, enjoy views of the Yarlung Tsangpo River, also known as the Brahmaputra River, the longest and largest river in Tibet, as well as the Lhasa River.

  • After arriving in Lhasa, take time to rest and acclimatize to the altitude.

  • Feel free to visit Potala Square, where you can enjoy the colorful fountain and take amazing photos of the Potala Palace and the surrounding area.

Day 02

Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street

  • The first visit of the day is to the Potala Palace, the winter palace of the Dalai Lama. It has been in use since the 7th century and was built by the 33rd great king of Tibet.

  • After lunch, head to Jokhang Temple, founded by the 33rd great king of Tibet in the 7th century to promote the Buddhist religion. Inside, you can see the statue of Buddha Sakyamuni at the age of twelve, perhaps the single most venerated object in Tibetan Buddhism.

  • Around the temple, walk along Barkhor Street, where you can do kora with pilgrims and locals while also shopping for souvenirs.

Day 03

Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery

  • In the morning, visit Drepung Monastery, one of the "three great" Gelug monasteries of Tibet, founded in 1416 by Jamyang Choge, one of Tsongkhapa's main disciples.

  • In the afternoon, visit Sera Monastery, another of the "three great" Gelug monasteries of Tibet. It was founded in 1419 by Jamchen Chojey, also one of Tsongkhapa's main disciples.

  • The highlight of the day is the monks' debate, which usually takes place from around 3:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon.

Departure from Lhasa

  • Your guide will transfer you to the airport or train station and help you board for your departure.

Know before you go

  • Please note that you can only enter Tibet with a Tibet Travel Permit. We will help you apply for the Tibet permit, but please make sure you have a passport valid for at least 6 months and a Chinese visa before booking.

  • Please book at least 20 days in advance, as we need around 7-14 business days to process your Tibet permit. Any booking made after that time will not be confirmed.
