Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha/Moshi to Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
- Distance: 8 km
- Hiking Time: 3 hours
- Drive to Marangu Gate for registration and begin your hike.
- Trek through lush rainforest with towering eucalyptus trees and vibrant birdlife.
- Possible Colobus monkey sightings along the way.
- Optional side trip to Maundi Crater for panoramic views of Northern Tanzania and Kenya.
Overnight at Mandara Hut.
Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
- Distance: 11 km
- Hiking Time: 5 hours
- Ascend from the rainforest into open moorlands toward Horombo Hut.
- Enjoy stunning views of Mawenzi Peak and Kibo Peak.
- Trek through a landscape filled with giant lobelias and groundsels.
- Adjust to higher altitudes as you approach Horombo Hut.
Overnight at Horombo Hut.
Day 3: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate, Return to Moshi/Arusha

- Begin descent from Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate.

Physical Fitness: Prepare with regular hiking or endurance training. While no technical skills are needed, the altitude and terrain can make the trek physically demanding.

Altitude: The summit reaches 5,895 meters (19,341 feet), and altitude sickness is a concern. Acclimatize properly and stay hydrated. Guides will monitor your progress for any signs of altitude sickness.

Weather Conditions: Weather ranges from warm at the base to freezing at the summit. Prepare for all conditions—rain, sun, cold, and wind. Be ready for temperature drops, especially at night or at higher altitudes.

Packing: Pack light and only bring essentials. High-quality gear, especially boots, sleeping bags, and cold-weather clothing, is crucial. Your porters will carry your gear.

Meals and Water: All meals provided during the trek will be healthy and nutritious. Purified drinking water will be available throughout.

Trekking Duration: The trek involves long days of hiking. Mental and physical preparation is important.

Safety: Safety is prioritized, with emergency oxygen, professional guides, and support staff. Follow guide instructions, especially regarding pace and hydration.

Tipping: Tipping is customary for guides, porters, and cooks. It is not included in the tour price, so be prepared to tip based on satisfaction with their services.
