Itinerary
-
Day 01: Fes - Ifrane - Azrou – Midelt – Erfoud - Merzouga Desert
- We will depart early in the morning from Fes, heading towards the Middle Atlas Mountains.
- Our first stop is Ifrane, known as the "City of Flowers" and a renowned ski resort. We will continue our journey through the stunning cedar forests of Azrou, where we may encounter Barbary macaques.
- After passing through the town of Midelt, we will descend into the Ziz Valley, shaped by the Ziz River over millions of years. This fertile region offers striking views of the carved gorges.
- As we drive through the town of Erfoud and onward to Rissani, we will finally reach the Merzouga Desert.
- Upon arrival, we will meet our local guide and embark on a camel ride, or walk alongside the camels, as we follow the Berber-led caravan into the majestic sand dunes. The silence and solitude of the desert will be awe-inspiring.
- We will also visit local nomads, sharing a cup of mint tea with them before returning to our camp.
- As evening falls, we retreat to our exclusive private desert camp, set amidst the sand dunes. We’ll be welcomed with mint tea and fresh dates or nuts. The camp offers an authentic desert experience, blending luxury with the serene beauty of the Sahara.
- After a delicious dinner, we will gather around the campfire under the starry African sky, experiencing the vastness of the desert in peace.
- We will spend the night in luxurious canvas tents, enjoying the comfort and mystique of the desert.
-
Day 02: Merzouga Desert – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades
- This morning, we leave the desert and travel to the village of Rissani, then onwards to Tinghir and the stunning Todra Gorge. The towering rock walls of the gorge change colors dramatically as the sun rises and sets, creating a magical effect.
- We will take time to stretch our legs and enjoy the surroundings.
- Our journey continues through small villages, their homes painted in shades of pink and grey that blend with the surrounding rock.
- We’ll pass by the ruins of kasbahs and ksour, which stand in stark contrast to the fertile patches of land nearby. From here, we head towards the Dades Valley, where we will spend the night.
-
Day 03: Dades – Rose Valley – Skoura Oasis – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
- After breakfast in Dades, we begin our journey towards Marrakech, passing through the scenic Roses Valley, known for its fragrant roses and their by-products.
- We will stop in Kalat Mgouna to explore this beautiful area before continuing along the "Road of a Thousand Kasbahs," where we’ll admire the ancient castle-like houses.
- Our next stop is Skoura Oasis, followed by Ouarzazate, the gateway to the desert and home to famous film studios where many Hollywood movies have been shot.
- We will then visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a stunning example of traditional Moroccan architecture.
- Finally, we will cross the Atlas Mountains via the Tizi-n-Tichka pass (2,260m) on our way to Marrakech, the "southern pearl" of Morocco. You will be dropped off at your hotel or riad for a well-deserved rest.
