On a hilltop set back from the caldera's edge, you'll find the hidden gem of Pyrgos, a medieval village less touched by tourism, where narrow streets lead you to the remains of an ancient castle. Continue to the town of Firostefani where you'll begin your 30-minute walk to Imerovigli for astounding views from the clifftops. Then take a half hour drive to Oia where you'll have ample time to explore this one-of-a-kind village. Superlatives don't suffice to describe the beauty of this whitewashed town accented in the colorful pastels of cave homes built into the cliffs, all overlooking the splendor of the bay and the ever-changing perspective of the caldera. Finally, drive back to capital Thira where you can take a stroll on the promenade passing pretty churches and more remarkable vistas in route to the cable car that will bring you down the cliffside and back to the tender port.
