Itinerary

1. Day 1: Arrival at airport and transfer to a small hotel in Mbour

   Stay Type: Full board according to your arrival.

   Hotel: Blue Africa

2. Day 2: Saint Louis

   • En route, we will have many birding stops. It is possible to see Vinaceous Dove, Yellow-crowned Gonolek, Chestnut-bellied Starling, Blue-naped Mousebird, Red-billed Hornbill, Long-tailed Glossy Starling, and some vultures such as the Lappet-faced and Hooded-Vultures. 

   Stay overnight at Ranch De Bango or Lampsar Lodge.

   Stay Type: Full board 

3. Day 3: Trois Marigots - Podor

   • We will also explore another birding site of great interest, Les Trois Marigots, where we can spot Ruff, Black-winged Stilt, and Black-headed Lapwing. 
   • Then, we will drive Northwards, towards the edge of the Sahara, where some key species await us while crossing the forest of acacias. Among those species, we have the iconic Cricket Longtail and Golden Nightjar. It is easy around Podor to see the Sudan Golden Sparrow, Black Scrub Robin, Sennar Penduline Tit, and so on.

   Dinner and overnight stay at Gîte d’Etape.

4. Day 4: Birding in Podor

   • So we head northwards to Richard Toll and Podor. In Podor, we are pretty much at the edge of the Sahara Desert. The landscape is mainly composed of acacias. Here we can see species of Tawny-Flanked Prinia, flocks of Sudan Golden Sparrow, Cricket Warbler, Sennar Penduline Tit, Grey Woodpecker, Black Scrub Robin, and so on
   • Eat lunch in Richard Toll, and we will drive to Podor.

   Dinner and overnight stay at Gite D’Etape.

5. Day 5: Birding in the Djoudj Birds Park and Ross Bethio

   • The morning will be dedicated to some birdwatching in the most important bird habitat in Northern Senegal, the Djoudj Birds Reserve, where there are recorded 320 species of birds. Here, we can see the river Prinia, White-faced Whistling Ducks, Garganey, Spur-winged Geese, greater and lesser Flamingoes, Knob-billed Geese, great flock of White Pelicans, African Darter, African Fish Eagle, and so on.
   • Eat lunch at NDiagabaar Camp, and in the afternoon, we will go on a boat ride to see the pelican and other species of birds.

   Dinner and overnight stay at Ranch De Bango, Cap Saint Louis, or Lampsar Lodge.

   Stay Type: Full board

6. Day 6: Koalack - Kousmar

   • We will make some stops on the way to Kaolack. In this arid area, we can see a lot of vultures, including the Lappet-faced Vultures, Rüppel Griffon Vultures, White-backed Vultures and the most common, Hooded vultures. 
   • Eat lunch in Kaolack at the Blue Bird Restaurant and in the afternoon, we head to Kousmar, where we are supposed to spot the Scissor-tailed Kite.

   Dinner and overnight stay at Auberge Les Coquillages or a similar place.

7. Day 7: Kaolack – Toubacouta

   We will plan our birding tour according to the tides. The low tide is the most appreciated time to see the iconic Tiger-crested Heron. We will have a boat ride at a low tide to see our other iconic birds .

   • In the afternoon, we continue birding on our way to Toubacouta. Here, we will spot the Blue-bellied roller, Bronze mannikin, Pearl-spotted Owl, Lavender Waxbill, Bearded Barbet, Violet-backed Starling, Western Grey Plantain Eater, Rose-ringed Parakeet, Wire-tailed Swallow, and so on.

   Dinner and overnight stay at Auberge Les Coquillages or Hotel Chez Saloum.

8. Day 8: Transfert to airport
