Description

Experience breathtaking wildlife in the midst of some of the most diverse landscapes. There are monkeys in the forest, lions in trees, elephants amongst acacias, and a huge variety of animals inside a collapsed volcano. Ngorongoro Crater provides a magnificent view of vast, rolling, lush green grassland. You could see herds of elephants in the Ngorongoro Crater. After the game drive, there will be time for a picnic lunch near the beautiful Hippo Lake.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha to lake manyara national park
- After breakfast, you depart to Lake Manyara National Park. The journey includes a game drive and carried lunch boxes. Once the game drive is complete, we will drive you back to the lodge to relax and stay overnight.
- Lake Manyara National Park is famous for its arboreal lions, which hide among tree branches. Numerous troops of baboons live in the forest and accompany visitors along the road from the moment they enter the park.
Day 2: Karatu to Serengeti national park
- Have breakfast and then depart early in the morning with your lunch, heading off on a spectacular afternoon game viewing in Serengeti National Park. You will spend 2 nights exploring the Serengeti plains.
- Serengeti is a park located in Northern Tanzania and is a World Heritage Site occupying an area of around 15,000 sq km. It is home to over 2 million herbivores, 4,000 lions, 1,000 leopards, 550 cheetahs, and some 500 bird species. During the dry season, this area is filled with massive herds of migratory wildebeest and zebra. However, the Northern Serengeti also supports an abundance of resident wildlife including lion, elephant, hippo, giraffe, crocodile, and the rare oribi antelope.
Day 3: Explore Serengeti national park
- On day 3, there is a morning game drive in the Serengeti as many animals only hunt in the cold morning hours. Viewing the wildlife and the landscape of Serengeti in the golden hue of morning sunlight is an incredibly humbling experience. After the morning game drive, there is breakfast at the lodge. After enjoying the breakfast and a little bit of sightseeing from the lodge deck, it is time for another game drive in Ngorongoro Crater
- Ngorongoro Crater provides a magnificent view of vast rolling lush green grassland. You could see herds of elephants in the Ngorongoro Crater. The view of the crater from the crater rim is absolutely refreshing. We would spend the evening in one of the plush tents constructed at the rim of the crater with magnificent views. Dinner is served as a complimentary service and you spend the night amid nature.
Day 4: Game Drive and Return to Arusha
- We will start the day very early and descend into the crater floor for an incredible morning of wildlife viewing in one of the most stunning places on earth. After the game drive, there will be time for a picnic lunch near the beautiful Hippo Lake. After lunch, we will have time for a short game drive, ascend the crater, and exit the Ngorongoro Conservation Area towards Arusha. We expect to be back in Arusha around 5 pm, although we are flexible if there is a flight to catch or another situation.

Know Before You Go

A Serengeti Wildlife Safaris representative will collect you from the airport and take you to your accommodation in Arusha for the night. We are happy to book accommodation before and after your safari if needed.

On Arrival

Flying into Arusha / Kilimanjaro Airports is quite straightforward. English is widely spoken and used for signs and directions.

Arusha airport is a 30-minute drive from Arusha

Kilimanjaro Airport is roughly a one-hour drive from Arusha. If you arrive on an international flight, clearing immigration can be a lengthy process.

Money

The local currency is the Tanzanian Shillings. US Dollars and Euros are widely accepted. Most places will not accept older US dollar bills (printed before 2006).

Credit Cards

If you intend to use your credit or debit card to withdraw funds, we suggest taking more than one card with you as you may find that your card is not accepted at the first ATM you may try Visa and Maestro cards are best. We recommend informing your bank that you will be using your card abroad to avoid being blocked.

ATM’s

These are available in Arusha and allow you to withdraw local currency.

Flight Information

We would advise that you arrive in Arusha at least 1 day before your trip begins. Return flights can be booked for the late afternoon/evening of the final day of your Safari, but please ensure your guide is aware of this so that you can arrive at the airport in plenty of time for your flight.

Visa & Passports

Please check with the relevant Embassy in your country for up-to-date visa and passport information. Make sure your passport is not going to expire within six months of your trip (i.e., if your trip is in September make sure your passport is valid until at least March of the following year) and that it has at least 3 clear pages. You will probably need a visa to enter Tanzania. Check with your own country’s government travel website to find out how to get your visa. Most visas can be bought on arrival into the country.

Vaccinations & Health

You will require vaccinations for your trip. As we are not medically trained, we are unable to give detailed advice on vaccination requirements. However, the following vaccinations are normally recommended for Tanzania:

Malaria

Yellow Fever is compulsory when entering Tanzania from a country with Yellow Fever. Vaccination certificates are often checked at immigration. If you are entering Tanzania from a country that does not have Yellow Fever, vaccination is not needed. Malaria. In some of the areas we visit, there is a risk of contracting Malaria. You must be aware that whatever malaria tablets you are taking only offer partial protection. They must be coupled with your physical efforts against being bitten - which is the best prevention. Malaria-carrying mosquitoes come out at sunset, so from this time, you should wear long sleeves and trousers. Exposed skin, especially ankles, should have insect repellent containing 'Deet' applied to them.

Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend that you have extensive travel insurance to cover you for your trip. It is also wise to leave a copy of your insurance policy with a friend or relative for safekeeping. Your policy should include adequate Medical Emergency and Repatriation coverage.

Tipping

There is a well-established culture of tipping in Tanzania. Guides: If you feel you have received good service, a typical tip is U$D 10-15 per person per day. The guides work extremely long hours, and tips supplement their income significantly. Anything you can afford is appreciated. Tipping in accommodation is also discretionary. Most accommodation will have a tip box in Reception. We would recommend putting something in at the end of your stay, rather than giving individuals money. Depending on the level of service, we recommend $10 per day (for a group of 2).

Climate

In Tanzania, the year is loosely divided into the 'short' rains (November) and the 'long' rains (March to May). The 'rains' usually last for one or two hours each day and are followed by hot, sunny weather. Nights can be surprisingly cold at higher altitudes, e.g., Ngorongoro Crater.

What To Bring

Luggage: Use a durable, waterproof, lockable duffel or soft-sided bag. Keep valuables in a separate day pack and leave sentimental or high-value items at home.

Clothes: Pack layers for hot days and cool nights. Choose breathable, sun-protective clothing in mid-tone colours like olive, green, and khaki. Avoid white, bright, or dark colours. Casual wear is suitable for lodge evenings. Bring a waterproof coat and check the weather before travelling.

Shoes: For footwear, bring light hiking boots and sports sandals for daytime and camp walks. Flip-flops are useful for showers.

Sun Protection: The African sun can be brutal, so bring a good pair of sunglasses, a hat, sun cream, and lip salve.

First Aid Supplies: Antiseptic ointment, Antihistamine cream and tablets, Painkiller (e.g., Nurofen), Eye drops, Anti-diarrhea medication, Bandages, Personal medication for allergies/asthma, Insect repellent with DEET.

Photography & Electrical Equipment: We recommend you bring a Strong bag/carry case to protect the camera, Spare/extra batteries, Memory/Storage media (2 x memory cards in case one gets corrupted), and Binoculars.
