Danube Heritage Tour to Golubac Fortress and Lepenski Vir
- Danube River (Pass By)
Let us introduce you to a grandiose monument of nature, the mighty Danube River. The Danube was, and still remains, a point of both union and separation for nations and countries. Our country is privileged to be one of the ten through which Europe's second-longest river flows. Once the main bond between the East and the West, and the border of the powerful Roman Empire, it has not lost its importance and nowadays remains a route that connects the edges of the Old Continent. This incredible river, popularly called the "old giant," is the cradle of many civilizations and cultures from different epochs, and the sites along the Serbian part of its bank are proof of that.
- Golubac Fortress
Following the flow of the blue giant, you will first see Golubac Fortress. Built on inaccessible cliffs near the widest part of the Danube, this medieval fortification welcomes you with mystical towers that tell stories resembling a true fairytale. Climbing high up one of the towers, you'll understand why locals say the Danube looks like the sea from this point. Standing in one of the best-preserved fortresses in Serbia, you will have an opportunity to enjoy an almost "aerial" view of the Danube and its mirror-like surface.
- Lepenski Vir
For the next stop, we will set a "time machine" and take you to the Neolithic era. The archaeological site of Lepenski Vir, a prehistoric urban settlement, reveals fascinating information about our ancestors from the VI century BC. Their way of life and mindset prove that ancient Homo sapiens were far more advanced than we once predicted. This museum, unique in its theme, location, and construction, will leave you inspired and full of wonder.
- Kapetan Mišin breg
Your reward after this "history class" will be the eco-ethno household "Kapetan Mišin breg," where you can enjoy enchanting views over the Djerdap Gorge. The complex, named after a highly respected captain, features an open-air gallery called "Man, Wood, Water," with a collection of wooden and stone sculptures. Take a deep breath, chat with your hosts, and gaze into the distance as you say goodbye to the mighty Danube. We truly hope that the storytelling connected to the events and sites along the river, as "witnesses" of different epochs, will give you one more piece to add to the Serbia puzzle.
