Itinerary

1. Day 1: Semera – Hamed Ela

   • You will fly from Addis Ababa to Semera and drive for about 5-6 hours to reach Hamed Ela.
   • You will make a stop at Lake Afdera during your journey for lunch. You may even swim in the lake if you desire.
   • In the evening, you will visit Lake Asale, which has salt flats in the next camping village. You will enjoy a drink of wine or beer in the beautiful place as you swim in the salt lake.

   Overnight open-air camping at Hamed Ela.

2. Day 2: Dallol- Erta Ale (volcano)

   • After breakfast, you will drive to the colourful attractions of Dallol, located at -125 meters below sea level. Here, you will visit the different landscapes formed by volcanic activity, Dallol + Lake Assal + camel caravans. Excursion to Dallol (116 meters below sea level, one of the lowest places in the world): colourful salt mining. 
   • After exploring all the other attractions, you will go to Erta Ale, one of Ethiopia's most captivating and physically demanding natural wonders. It is a shield volcano that has a base diameter of 30 km and a caldera at its summit measuring 1 km square. Erta Ale is home to the world's only permanent lava lake and is situated at an altitude of 613 meters. The drive to Erta Ale may take approximately 4 hours and is characterized by a changing landscape of solidified lava rock and sand. You will pass through several hamlets scattered throughout the deserted land before arriving at the Erta Ale camping site.
   • After taking a short break and having an early dinner, just before sunset, you will trek for about an hour to Erta Ale. Once you arrive, you will spend a few hours watching the dramatic action of the boiling lava. 
   • You will trek back to the basic camp basement to spend the night and sleep under the stars.

3. Day 3: Ertale-Semera

   • After breakfast, you revisit the boiling lava in the early morning. 
   • You will proceed to Afdera and Semara for your flight to Addis.
