Day 1: Arusha to Irente Viewpoint
On arrival, you will visit the famous Irente Viewpoint and see the village of Mazinde, almost 1000m below, and the vast Maasai steppe beyond. On the return trip to Lushoto via the German Middle school, visit the Irente farm for lunch at an orphanage that acts as a blind and autistic school in the village of Kwembago.
Dinner and overnight.
-
Day 2: Magamba Rainforest
After breakfast, you will visit the Magamba Rainforest. The tour begins with an uphill walk from Lushoto to the royal village of Kwembago. Here you can learn about the cultural history of the traditional ruling clan of the Kilindi and the centuries–old kingdom of Washambara from Kwembago. You have a beautiful view over Lushoto to the Maasai plain from here. From here, you proceed to the Lushoto Magamba tropical rainforest, home to the rare black and white Colobus Monkey and old-world species endemic to Africa. You will hear them first; they are frequently visible as they sit in groups high in the forest canopy.
Dinner and overnight.
-
Day 3: Usambara Farm and Flora
You have morning breakfast and then visit Usambara Farm and Flora. This walk takes you through the fertile land of Jaegertal to a fruit tree nursery, where you learn about the different varieties of fruit trees contained in the nursery. You continue uphill to the village of Vuli to learn about local soil conservation irrigation projects and farming methods. In the last part of the journey, we returned to Lushoto for dinner and overnight—end of the tour in Lushoto.
