Day 03

Chimpanzee Tracking and Bigodi Wetland Community Walk

  • Drive to the park headquarters for a briefing on chimpanzee tracking. Upon arrival, you will be briefed and grouped, usually into parties of no more than eight. Occasionally, you might have the chance to go alone, but this is rare. Once the chimpanzees are located, you will spend a valuable hour observing them. Following this, transfer to the pick-up point for a drive back to your hotel for lunch.
  • Post-lunch, embark on a drive to Bigodi Wetland for a community wetland tour that includes bird-watching, community interactions, and primate spotting. This less demanding trek offers a rich community interaction experience. A community guide will lead you on a 1 to 2-hour walk, tailored to your interests. Expect to spot various monkey species, exquisite birds like the Great Blue Turaco, women's projects, and experience a traditional African community setting. Later, return to your hotel for relaxation, followed by dinner and an overnight stay.

Kibale Forest Park stands as Uganda's most splendid tropical rainforest and is among the most rewarding destinations to explore. The park is home to 13 primate species, including the localized Red Colobus, L'Hoest monkeys, and the endemic Uganda Mangabey. The park's primary attraction is the chimpanzees, delightful apes more closely related to humans than any other creature. Observe them swinging through the trees as you trek the forest trails. Beyond primates, the park also houses elusive elephants, buffalos, giant forest hogs, and antelopes, making it one of Uganda's most diverse and mesmerizing national parks.

For those interested in a more immersive experience, there is an option to spend the entire day with the chimpanzees in the forest for an additional fee through Chimpanzee Habituation.

Journey time: Approximately 5-7 hours. This can vary based on activities.
