Itinerary
-
Stella Maris Monastery
- Meet the guide outside the main entrance to the Stella Maris Monastery.
- On this tour, we will visit the Monastery of the Carmelite order on the slopes of the sacred Mount Carmel in Haifa, Israel. The current structure was constructed in 1826 and was opened for service in 1853; it is the biggest Monastery in all of Israel and serves as a centre of Carmelite spirituality throughout the world. We will learn about the unique and distinctive order of the Carmelites who arrived at the Holy Land during the third crusade in 1192.
- We will visit the Holy Church dedicated to 'Our Humble Lady of the Carmel Mount', built atop an ancient cave. According to tradition, the prophet Elijah, who was active in the Carmel at the time of King Ahab (10 century BCE), was hosted in this place.
- Then cross the road to enjoy one of the best urban viewpoints Israel offers and gaze at the modern city of Haifa and the Galilee Mountains. We will talk about the 'Pyramid' tombstone commemorating Napoleon's soldiers who were massacred on the side by the Turks during Napoleon Bonaparte's military campaign in the Holy Land in 1799 before we say our goodbyes.
