Itinerary
-
Go to Frutillar and enjoy Local Beer Tasting
- We will take our vehicle to go in the direction of Frutillar, a small town 30 km away. A few minutes away, we cross the town of Llanquihue, another of the many towns founded by German settlers. Called before Desagüe, it corresponded to the source of the Maullin River, where Lake Llanquihue empties its waters towards the Pacific Ocean.
- From there, we will begin to border the second-largest lake in Chile, and if the climate allows us, we will have the most beautiful views of the Osorno and Puntiagudo volcanoes and Cerro Tronador.
- We will know that the cities of Chile are not the attraction of the country, but there are exceptions to the rule: the small town of Frutillar is a unique cultural experience of the country and of Patagonia. Elected in 2017 by UNESCO as a Creative City of Music, Frutillar is a place that charms its landscapes and its great artistic vocation. Although it is a quiet little town, it is in Frutillar that one of the artistic and educational projects of major quality in Chile has been established: the Theater of the Lake is a first-class performance hall associated with high-level international schools which presents an agenda full of recognized artists. And at the same time, an educational project associated with local schools that attract children and young people has the artistic vocation of the whole region and the country. Knowing the socio-economic and cultural reality of Chile, whose education and cultural development are retarded, it is impressive to see the success of this project.
- After visiting Frutillar and the Theater of the Lake, we return to Puerto Varas, but not before making a final stop to discover another historical aspect of the area: craft beer. Coming from a long tradition of descendants of German settlers and other countries, southern Chile has provided the perfect climate for crafting excellent beer. There are many offers in Chilean Patagonia, and all of them were born from a family business or from friends, and all of them have a story to tell. At the edge of the lake, we will enjoy this moment with a picoteo before returning to Puerto Varas.
