Description
Vaison-la-Romaine is one of the cities with the highest concentration of Gallo-Roman ruins excavated in France. Thanks to its authentic "cachet", at the beginning of the current year, it was rewarded as "Petite Cité de Caractère de France." Located between the Rhone Valley and the Mont Ventoux, it lies at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, among vineyards, olive groves and forests. In Vasio Vocontorium, there are two areas to explore, Puymin and la Villasse. At Puymin, you will discover the remains of fancy Roman Domus (houses) and the public baths, as well as the foundations of the impressive Maison des Messii and its Roman restored theatre, nowadays used for concerts and dance festivals. La Villasse with some remains of a Basilica, Roman streets leading to the Maison au Buste d’Argent, an impressive villa. We will stop in one of the richest archeologic museums with its collections of mosaics, pottery, glassware, frescos, ordinary objects of daily life, as well as models and reconstructions. You won't leave the gallo-roman city without having seen the single arch roman Bridge.
