Itinerary
-
Day 1: Kampala to Jinja to the source of the Nile
- After breakfast at your home, our guide will meet you at the agreed meeting point. He will brief you about your adventure and then embark on your journey to Jinja. Jinja is 80km from Kampala. The journey will take 3-4 hours through the impressive landscapes of the city outskirts, towns and markets, where you will see people going on with their daily life before entering the sugarcane plantations of Lugazi and the tropical rain forest of Mabira.
- On your arrival, you will relax and settle for lunch. You will be transferred to the source of the Nile, one of the most iconic places in Africa- the point at which the Nile River exists, Lake Victoria, to commence its long journey north to the Mediterranean Sea. The source of the Nile River is a quiet, beautiful place filled with palm trees and great tropical plants, and as you walk down the steps towards the river Nile, you can smell the flowers, as you stand on the Nile, hear the gurgling water, watch local fishermen through their nets in the water. The boat ride is a rewarding adventure as it exposes you to opportunities to explore birds, including beautiful kingfishers—a retreat from the activity for relaxation, dinner and overnight.
-
Day 2: White water rafting on the Nile River
- After breakfast, you go for white water rafting, where you will first be briefed and given rafting gear. The opportunity to do whitewater rafting from the longest river on earth is terrific in Uganda. The activity takes you to the middle of the river while passing through chaotic and turbulent rapids. The Nile rapids in Jinja are graded 4 and 5, offering Uganda's best white water rafting experiences. The rapids flow with more volume and power than those in river Zambezi.
- Retreat from the activity for lunch and relaxation; you will have dinner and overnight later in the evening.
-
Day 3: Transfer to Sipi falls
- After breakfast, you will embark on a 196km journey to Sipi Falls, taking you about 3-4 hours.
- On your arrival, you will have lunch and then have a community encounter where you will meet with the locals and interact with them, get to know their way of living and their music, dance and drama.
- You will return for relaxation, dinner and overnight.
-
Day 4: Hiking the 3 waterfalls and abseiling
- After breakfast in the morning, you will meet up with the guide for a briefing and then start hiking the falls; you will be given a walking stick before you start the hike. Depending on your fitness, hiking the 3 waterfalls takes 3-4 hours. The hike to the top is about 7km; it involves steep ascents, climbing ladders and passing through local farms. Acquiring good hiking boots with a firm grip on the ground is advisable.
- When you’re at the top, you will have clear scenic views of Lake Kyoga, mountain Elgon, Karamoja plains and the surrounding area. You will have opportunities of taking great photos and videos. Sipi Falls are arguably the best place for abseiling. The guide will arrange it in a specific section on the central Sipi Falls.
- Retreat from the activity for relaxation, have dinner and overnight.
-
Day 5: Arabica coffee tour and transfer back to Kampala
- After breakfast, undertake a coffee tour that will take you to a local coffee farm where you will visit the coffee plantations and head to the processing centre, where you will remove the husks, roast the beans and produce a fresh cup of coffee and enjoy it.
- Retreat from the activity for lunch and then embark on your journey back to Kampala.
