Description
Hike the highest Mount Liamuiga on the Island of St. Kitts, 3,792 feet above sea level. Witness the site of a volcano that still shows definite signs of life with its active fumaroles in its half-mile-wide crater. See flora and fauna, the geography of the island, and bits of its history and culture, along with awesome views of the neighbouring islands, such as St. Eustatius, St. Martin, Saba, St. Barts, and Anguilla.
Itinerary
-
Mount Liamuiga Hike
- Meet the tour guide at 7 a.m. (subject to change, depending upon the ship's arrival) at the meeting point, Port Zante.
- Travel from Basseterre along the Western Caribbean coastline to Newton Ground, named after John Newton, who wrote the song 'Amazing Grace' right here in our beloved St. Kitts.
- Follow the local farmers' road all the way up to the eave of the forest, where we park our vehicles. We will drink some water, do stretch exercises, then enter the forest and start the hike. (You can carry bottled water for thirst if you so desire.)
- Get to the top of the mountain, observe the crater, and then we rest for a while and view the islands in the distance. When everyone is fully rested, we leave the mountain, and everyone will have refreshments.
- Head to Basseterre and back to your ship or hotel.
