Itinerary
-
Explore Almaty and its famous sights
- Meet the tour guide near the Green Market (Bazaar) main entrance (51 Zhibek Zholy Street, corner of Dostyk Street).
- Explore the Green Market's oriental flavors and delicacies, including Kumys (horse milk) and Shubat (camel milk). Learn a little bit about Kazakh cuisine. Buy souvenirs and do the shopping if needed.
- Walk to Panfilov Park (about 200 - 300 meters). It is an urban park dedicated to 28 WW2 soldiers—heroes from Almaty. It contains Zenkov (Vosnesensky) Cathedral, the second tallest wooden building in the world built without nails. Take a short walk there and look at the Zenkov Cathedral.
- Go to Medeu (by taxi), climb up the stairs to the dam (optional) and go ice skating (the ice-skating option is regularly available only during the Winter).
- Catch a cable car or an eco-microbus shuttle to Shymbulak and two stations beyond. Here you can go skiing. Note that sometimes cable cars might not work or only partially work due to maintenance works. The ticket price expenses will be returned to you in this case.
- Visit Kok-Tobe Park on your way back to the city center. It is an amusement park near the TV tower of the same name on top of Kok-Tobe Mountain, with a Ferris wheel and the Beatles sculpture.
- Return by cable car or by bus to the Republic Palace area.
