Itinerary
-
Day-1: Arrive in Moshi
You will be picked up from the airport. From there, head to your hotel in Moshi for an orientation to your trek. Your guides will be there to give you details about your trek and will also check your trekking equipment.
Dinner and overnight stay at Panama Garden Resort, a similar hotel in Moshi. -
Day-2: Marangu Gate (1700m)
After breakfast and briefing, drive to Marangu village and continue to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (45 minutes), register at the Kilimanjaro National Park Authority offices and start the climb. Walk through the rainforest to the Mandara refuge at 2,740m. A trip to Maundi Crater is a good way to see the area, including northern Tanzania.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included
-
Day-3: Mandara Hut (2,740m)
In the morning, around 8:30 am, after breakfast, start the trek to Horombo Hut. After about 1 hour, you leave the rainforest glades and follow an uphill path over open moorland to Horombo Hut. The views of Kibo Peak and Mawenzi are both magnificent and radiant on a clear day. In most cases, you will find Giant Lobelia and Grounsel on your way. Horombo Hut is a point where most climbers use it to acclimatize by spending an extra day. Spending an extra day offers a great opportunity for a successful summit on the roof of Africa.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included -
Day-4: Horombo Hut (3700m)
This morning, after breakfast, the trek takes us to the last point of water, walking on the saddle of Kilimanjaro between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. The vegetation begins in the upper interior but then disappears into a desert structure. In Kibo, you dine, take a nap, and in the middle of the night, around 11:30 p.m., you get ready for the summit climb.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included -
Day-5: Kibo Hut (4,750m/15,580ft)
Wake up around midnight for the final climb to Uhuru Peak, the Roof of Africa. The hike begins with a challenging five-hour hike to Gillman's Point at the rim of the crater. Although considered the easiest of the three routes to climb the crater, it is still extremely challenging. The first major rest area, William's Point, is 5,000 meters away and about a two-hour walk from Kibo Hut. Continue for 30 minutes before starting the rocky switchbacks that lead to Gillman's Point (5,681 meters).
The hike from Gilman's to Uhuru Peak is a gradual climb with little difficulty as far as hiking goes. However, the altitude makes the hike long and tiring. The walk on the edge of the crater takes about two hours. After reaching Uhuru, take photos of the guide and the group at the summit before starting the descent to the Horombo refuge.
Coming down from the top, you will see all the beautiful views that you might not see going up. Stop for a short break and snack at Kibo Hut before continuing to Horombo Hut. Join Horombo Hut in the afternoon and enjoy your last night on the mountain.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included -
Day-6: Horombo Hut (3,720m/12,200ft)
After breakfast, end the trek with a descent to Marangu Gate. Your last hike on Mount Kilimanjaro is beautiful and passes through the cloud forest of Mount Kilimanjaro. Watch your steps as you descend, as the trail can be slippery. Our vehicles will be waiting for you at the Marangu gate to take you back to Moshi. Dinner and overnight at Panama Garden Resort or a similar hotel in Moshi.
