Description
Sign up for this tour to visit two of Mauritania’s ancient cities in the region of the Adrar: Ouadane and Chinguetti and learn about their long history with the trans-Saharan caravan trades and as centres of Islamic learning. Tour across the desert and visit the palm date oasis, neolithic cave art, historic mosques and neighbourhoods and private libraries, look at the enchanting rock paintings of Amogjar.
Itinerary

Day 1- Nouakchott - Atar
- Travel to Atar from Nouakchott, which takes about 5 h 29 min (438. 9 km)
- Then, stop for tea in Akjoujt 3h 25 min (259. 7 km)
- When we arrive at Atar, we will visit the city center and the main market.
- Afterwards, proceed to the main mosque in Atar.
- Later on, head to Azougi, which was an essential stop on the trans-Saharan trade.
Overnight in a hotel at Atar.

Day 2- Ouadane
- Travel to Ouadane (3 h 7 min; 180. 1 km)
- Take a short stop at the rock paintings of Amogjar.
- In Ouadane, we will discover the Richat structure.
- Then, have lunch and move to the old mosque and houses.
Overnight in Ouadane.

Day 3- Chinguetti
- Head to Chinguetti, which takes about 3 to 4 hours of desert driving.
- Have lunch in the hotel in Chinguetti.
- Discover the beauty of the city by visiting the old mosque and libraries.
- Enjoy the sunset on the dunes near the city.
Overnight in the hotel.

Day 4- Chinguetti - Nouakchott
- Move back to Nouakchott.
- Stop in Mherith oasis of palm trees.
- Have lunch in Terjit oasis.
- Finally, we will arrive in Nouakchott.
