The itinerary

1
Day 01

Arusha to Tarangire National Park Safari

  • Early morning pick-up from your hotel, followed by a drive through the Masai Steppe via Makuyuni Junction to Tarangire National Park. This park is dotted with amazing baobab trees and extraordinary large herds of elephants. It is home to many animal species, including some rare breeds such as the oryx and hirola.
  • Later in the afternoon, drive out of the park and check in at the hotel or lodge for an overnight stay.
2
Day 02

Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive

  • Have an early breakfast at your camp at sunrise. Then, check out and drive towards the Ngorongoro Crater. Upon arrival, register at the Loduare Main Gate and descend into the crater for a wonderful game drive, with a picnic lunch on the crater floor.
    • This is also one of the few places in the world where the rare black rhino can be observed in its natural habitat.
    • As very few animals migrate in and out of the crater because of its 2000 ft. high walls, you can expect to see lions, elephants, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds, and other species.
    • With a bit of luck, the Big 5 can be spotted during a single game drive with the help of your hawk-eyed safari guide.
  • Later in the afternoon, ascend to the crater rim and check in at a lodge.

Day 03

Lake Manyara Safari and Return to Arusha

  • Have an early breakfast at the lodge, or carry a packed breakfast and lunch, then descend to the floor of the Great Rift Valley to visit Lake Manyara National Park on the last day of your 3-day safari in Tanzania.
  • Enter the park and notice the evergreen lush forest fed by underground water streams, a perfect habitat for blue monkeys, baboons, bushbucks, and huge elephants sheltering in the shade.
  • At the Hippo pools and Lake Manyara, observe the hippos and aquatic birds, including the colourful flamingoes, pelicans, Egyptian geese, cormorants, and many more. Continue with game drives until midday.
  • Drive to Arusha, where you will be dropped off at your Arusha hotel.

Know before you go

  • Ngorongoro Crater is often described as one of the wonders of the world. The 'Crater' (not a crater) is the world's largest intact volcanic caldera and a known natural sanctuary for some of Africa's densest animal populations.
  • The name 'Manyara' is a Maa word (Masai language) for the acacia tortilis tree species, which the nomadic Masai people use to make hedges to protect their homesteads and livestock. The park is highlighted by many trees and the tree-climbing lions, which are often spotted taking an afternoon siesta on the branches. Many other animals are a common sight in this evergreen park, including impalas, giraffes, buffaloes, and dik-diks.
