Day 01
Marangu Gate, Chagga Culture and Ndoro Waterfalls
- Meet your tour guide at 8 am and drive to Marangu Gate (1900 m), the starting point for all Kilimanjaro treks via the Marangu Route. Your local guide will assist you in taking pictures of the mighty Kilimanjaro and help you get a sense of the spirit of the mountain.
- Take a stroll around Marangu on arrival, then head to the home of the local Chagga tribe. Learn about their history and traditions.
- Make your second stop at a small coffee farm, where you will learn how coffee is grown, harvested, and processed locally. You will also try processing, roasting, and preparing a fresh cup of coffee.
- Depart for Ndoro Waterfalls. The hike to the base of the waterfall passes through a lush green landscape, and the descent takes approximately 1 hour. Enjoy an opportunity to relax and take a refreshing bath in the waterfall's plunge pool.
- Visit the Chagga Underground Caves and the Chagga Live Museum. Your tour guide will briefly explain the underground cave system and why it was built.
- Go on a gastronomical adventure and taste traditional Chagga meals at a local restaurant. You will also get a chance to taste local spirits such as banana beer and wine.
- Return to your stay.
