Climb Mount Meru, the second-highest mountain in Tanzania, on this 3-day trek east of Arusha. Hike through Arusha National Park with armed ranger escort and enjoy a walking safari atmosphere along the way. The itinerary

1
Day 01

Drive to Momella Gate and Trek to Miriakamba Hut

  • After breakfast, depart Moshi at about 8:30 a.m. and drive to Momella Gate.
  • Make payment and start the climb with a picnic lunch to the first hut, Miriakamba Hut.

Dinner and overnight at Miriakamba Hut (3 1/2 hrs).

Day 02

Climb from Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

  • After breakfast, proceed with the climb to the second hut, called Saddle. This section is much steeper compared to the first part (2 1/2 hrs).
  • During the afternoon, the client can decide to attempt climbing Little Meru Peak and return.

Dinner and overnight at Saddle Hut.

Day 03

Summit Meru Peak and Descend to Arusha

  • Wake up in the middle of the night and have a cup of tea before starting the ascent to Meru Peak.
  • Proceed to the summit across a rocky path and return to Saddle Hut for a full breakfast.
  • Take a short rest and leave Saddle Hut.
  • Descend to Momella Gate via the first hut, Miriakamba.
  • On the way back, pass through Momella Lakes and go for game viewing on the return to Arusha.
