Itinerary

1. Day 1: Addis Ababa to Bale National Park

   • After early breakfast in Addis Ababa, drive to Bale Mountain National Park.
   • Have a coffee break in Ziway and Shashemene. Between Shashemene and Dinsho, drive through the southeast highlands of Ethiopia. Upon arrival, stop for a rest break and lunch in Dinsho Lodge.
   • Afterwards, walk through the park and get a chance to spot and see some endemic/endangered animals, such as Menilik’s Bushbuck, Mountain Nyala, Warthog, Reedbuck, Gerry Duikers and Baboons. And endangered birds such as Black-headed siskin, Wattled Ibis, and Abyssinian Longclaw.

   Stay overnight at Dinsho Lodge, at an altitude of 3000m above sea level.

2. Day 2: Sodota Campsite

   • After breakfast, around 8:00, our hike between Dinsho and Sodoa will begin.
   • On the way, enjoy the spectacular scenery of Bale Mountain and, during the rainy season, Fincha Habera Waterfall. Catch the endemic Ethiopian Wolf (Key Qebero) and the high-altitude endemic birds such as Blue Winged Goose. 
   • After arrival at the campsite, have a nice lunch break.

   Stay overnight at the Sodota campsite, which sits at 3400m above sea level.

3. Day 3: Keyrensa Campsite

   • After early morning breakfast, begin our 6-hour hike to the campsite of Kerensa.
   • Pass through breathtaking gorges and valleys and the extraordinary viewpoint of The Wasama Valley.
   • After arrival, have lunch and a long break.

   Stay overnight at Keyrensa campsite with another unique landscape at 4000m above sea level.

4. Day 4: Rafu Campsite

   • The hike to the Rafu campsite will take about 6-7 hours and reach about 4100m above sea level.
   • On the way to the Rafu campsite, have an interesting stop at a unique viewpoint for photography, bird watching, and our next long break. With the high altitude and difficulty level, this hike will be a bit more challenging, but you will enjoy an unforgettable trekking experience on Bale Mountain.
   • Arrive in the late afternoon at the Rafu campsite. 

   Overnight stay at the Rafu Campsite.

5. Day 5: Humburi Campsite

   • Start your hike to the Sanetti Plateau Humburi campsite. On our way there, we experience icy winds blowing from the extensive Sanetti Plateau. Because of the particular area with its cloudy weather, we may have difficulty seeing the scenery.
   • Spot the rare Ethiopian wolf once more, along with high altitude birds and shrubs.

   Stay overnight at the Humbrui campsite.

6. Day 6: Tullu Dimtu

   • Trek to the summit of Tullu Dimtu, the 2nd highest point in Ethiopia, at an altitude of 4377m above sea level, through the Sanetti Plateau.
   • Celebrate the victory of reaching our final destination after an arduous, beautiful and satisfying trek. Enjoy your accomplishment with pride on the top. Overlooking the valleys from the peak is a lovely reward.
   • Depart to Addis Ababa.
