Itinerary
-
Day 1: Maun - Okavango delta (mokoro excursions)
You will be picked up by your tour guide from your hotel in Maun early in the morning. Head for the Okavango Delta to meet with experienced mokoro polers.
Visit the Okavango Delta, Africa’s last great unspoiled wilderness, situated in the northern reaches of Botswana. It is a vast ecosystem created as the Okavango River spills over onto the shifting sands of the parched Kalahari Desert. It then fans out to form the Okavango Delta, a 16,000 square–kilometre wilderness of papyrus swamps, shallow reed–beds and fertile floodplains, dotted with islands and laced with a network of channels and lagoons.
Board your mokoro around 0800 hours, and you will silently be poled along the quiet waterways to one of its many islands where you will set up camp for two (2) nights.
Set off on foot at this island, as soon as the heat of the day relents, on your first safari walk within the Okavango Delta.
Expect to encounter a fantastic variety of large game during these safari walks such as elephants, hippos, giraffes, zebras, etc.
-
Day 2: Okavango delta (mokoro rides & safari walks)
Wake up early morning for coffee/tea, cereals, rusks and cooked breakfast. Set off with your guide for your morning safari walk in the Okavango Delta after breakfast.
As you explore the Okavango on foot, you will once again be searching for the game as the Okavango is world-famous for its rich biodiversity. These safari walks are led by local guides who are part of the community that lives on the fringes of the Delta.
On these outings, you may come across a combination of game animals, and you will also be presented with excellent photographic opportunities to capture the beauty of the Okavango. It is possible to spot games such as elephants, hippos, zebras, etc., during these safari walks.
Return from the safari walks around midday to chill and enjoy your lunch.
Set off once again in the afternoon to explore the Okavango Delta either on foot or in a mokoro.
Return to camp in the late afternoon to have a shower and after that enjoy a campfire cooked dinner.
-
Day 3: Okavango delta to Maun (Departure)
Wake up early morning for coffee/tea, cereals, rusks and cooked breakfast. Set off with your guide for your last morning safari walk/mokoro excursion in the Okavango Delta after breakfast.
Return to camp at the end of today's Okavango Delta excursion for showers, a change of clothes and a fully cooked brunch.
Wrap your mokoro excursion, having immersed yourself within the spirit of African adventure. You will silently be poled along the miraculous waterways of the Okavango Delta back to the mokoro station to pick up by your safari guide.
Board your safari vehicle and head back to Maun.
End the safari officially upon arrival in Maun today. You will transfer to your hotel or airport for departure.
