Bucharest to Transylvania
Start the day early in the morning with a pick-up from your hotel in Bucharest.
Drive to Targoviste - the former capital of Wallachia and visit the Princely Court. With a history that goes back to the 15th century, this former Princely Court was used as a residence by some of the most famous princes of Wallachia, including Constantin Brancoveanu and the legendary Vlad the Impaler (Dracula). They built the emblematic Chindia Tower, one of the elements of the defensive military system.
- Head to Curtea de Arges, another former capital, older than Targoviste. The monastery, Curtea de Arges - Built in the 16th century, with marble and tiles brought in from Constantinople, the current edifice dated from 1875 when French architect André Lecomte du Nouy was retained to save the complex.
- Explore Vidraru Arch Dam - built-in 1966 to create hydroelectricity; it was the fifth largest dam in Europe. The Carpathian Mountains reveal their peaks at the end of the scenery, from the dam. So, prepare your cameras again for some great photos!
Drive uphill to Poienari Fortress with your Romania tour guide. It was the real refuge citadel built by Dracula guarding the river valley against an impressive overlooking hilltop.
Climb 1470 steps to get to the Fortress (around 20-30 minutes on a trek). Once you reach the fortress, you will find the cliffside view mind-blowing, as the scenery up there is breathtaking!
Make the last stop before getting back to Bucharest at Vidraru Arch Dam, located on the bank of the Argeş River, next to the famous Transfagarasan Road, a real engineering jewel!
