Tracing the Jewish History of Lviv
- Meet your tour guide at the pre-decided location.
Start your tour at the 'Space of Synagogues' memorial site in the center of Lviv, which powerfully commemorates the history of the Jews of Lviv, and see where mezuzahs were once fixed.
Walk to the former Krakow suburb of Lviv which, in bygone times, was the hub of Jewish life in the city.
Witness the site where the Reformed Synagogue once stood, as well as the Great Suburban Synagogue, both sadly gone today. However, see the former Hasidic Synagogue, which still stands and is now partly a cultural center.
Visit the Holocaust memorial, the Museum of Terror, the house where Sholem Aleichem, the world-famous 'father of Yiddish literature' lived for 5 months, and walk down Słoneczna Street where, before the war, more than 40 synagogues were located.
End the tour at the Jewish Hospital and old Jewish cemetery. Sadly little remains of the cemetery, but it is an appropriate place to conclude the tour since it dates back to medieval time!
Return homewards.
