Itinerary
-
Day 1: Mulu airport - Mulu National Park - Deer Cave - Lang's Cave
Arrive at Mulu Airport and check in at your selected accommodation.
Meet your Malaysia tour guide at the Mulu headquarters office in the afternoon.
Proceed to Deer Cave by following a three-kilometre plank walk. On the way to the Cave, you'll see the great rainforest, jungle streams and an ancient Penan burial cave. A flashlight helps examine the guano-covered cave floor and its population of insects. The path eventually leads to the "Garden of Eden", where a hole in the cave roof lets in a shaft of light, which allows the rich green vegetation to thrive.
Continue to Lang's Cave, whose entrance is a short distance away from Deer Cave. Lang's Cave is the smallest show cave, but its rock formations are worth seeing. These are made more attractive by the strategically positioned spotlights that highlight stalactites and stalagmites. The Cave is relatively small and well-lit; it offers good opportunities to see some of its inhabitants, such as bats, swiftlets and even cave-dwelling snakes.
After exploring the caves, move to the bat's observatory to observe bats flying out of caves in the late afternoon. Between 5 to 7 pm, if the weather is fine, visitors may be treated to the spectacular sight of a black cloud of free-tailed bats emerging from the entrance of the Cave to go in search of food.
Follow the same plank walk to return to the park headquarters.
-
Day 2: Batu Bungan - Wind Cave and Clearwater Cave
Have breakfast at Mulu and transfer to Batu Bungan by longboat to visit- Penan's native Sarawak settlement to observe the tribe lifestyle with your Miri tour guide. Also, select fancy handicrafts on display for sale at Penan Settlement.
Continue to Wind Cave and Clearwater Cave. A plank walk leads from the riverbank to the entrance, and it is named due to the cool breeze felt at the narrow parts of the cave. Wind Cave is a part of the Clearwater system and has many impressive stalactites, stalagmites, flow rocks and rock corals.
Head to Clearwater Cave, a fascinating cave to scroll around. Plank walks, paths, and small floating bridges make this an easy and enjoyable experience. There are excellent photo opportunities for those who love photography. Picnic lunch is served at Clearwater summer hut with a pool that flows out of the cave.
