The itinerary

1
Day 01

Cusco to Soraypampa and Humantay Lake Trek

  • Leave Cusco by the company's private bus and arrive in Mollepata.

  • Pass through Anta and Limatambo before reaching our destination.

  • Have breakfast and prepare for the trek.

  • Take transport to the starting point of the trek, from where we will walk for approximately 4 hours until we reach Soraypampa.

  • Break here for lunch, then continue to Humantay Lagoon.

  • Walk back to the camp, where tea and dinner will be served.

The trek is 12 km and takes approximately 5 hours.

Day 02

Soraypampa to Salkantay Pass, Huayracmachay and Chaullay

  • Drink a cup of coca tea served in your tent and have breakfast.

  • Ascend from Soraypampa to reach Salkantay Pass. If the weather is good, we will see the majestic APU Salkantay, one of the most important mountains in Incan culture.

  • Start the descent to Huayracmachay and stop here briefly for lunch.

  • Continue descending to the community of Chaullay, where we will spend the second night.

  • Arrive at the campsite at around 5:00 pm. Here, you can take a hot shower (optional, at an extra cost of 10 soles).

  • Enjoy tea, followed by dinner, and rest overnight.

The trek is 22 km and takes approximately 9 hours.

Day 03

Chaullay to Sahuayaco and Santa Teresa

  • Start trekking from Chaullay.

  • Pass through the community of Collpapampa and continue the descent through the local vegetation.

  • Cross the thermal waters in a valley near the Santa Teresa River. The area is full of orchid gardens and large waterfalls.

  • Feel the change in climate as we enter the area known as the eyebrow of the jungle, or the High Jungle.

  • Arrive at Playa Sahuayaco, where we will have lunch prepared by our tour chef.

  • Take local transport to the town of Santa Teresa, where we will spend the third night.

  • Visit the thermal baths of Cocalmayo in coordination with the tour guide (optional, approximate cost: 15 soles).

  • Enjoy a campfire and a party at night.

The trek is 14 km and takes approximately 5 hours.

Day 04

Hydroelectric to Aguas Calientes

  • Register at Hydroelectric and enter the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.

  • Stop here briefly for lunch.

  • Continue to Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu town.

  • Have dinner and discuss the tour details for the next day, when we visit the Sacred City of the Incas, Machu Picchu.

  • You may opt for canopy or rappelling to save the first 3 hours of trekking if you wish (optional, extra cost).

Trek of 20 km with a duration of 6 hours.

Day 05

Machu Picchu Exploration and Return to Cusco

  • Begin an early ascent toward the Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu.

  • Visit the main buildings and temples of this important city.

  • Explore Machu Picchu and marvel at the Sun Gate or the Inca Bridge. Photography enthusiasts can also head toward Waynapicchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain (optional, extra cost) until 4:00 pm.

  • Return to the village of Aguas Calientes.

  • Take the train back to Ollantaytambo.

  • Depart for Cusco by bus.

Guide

  • English-speaking Machu Picchu tour guide.

Transport

  • Tourist transport from Cusco to Mollepata, approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
  • Transport from Mollepata to the start of the trek, approximately 45 minutes.
  • Transport from Sahuayaco to Santa Teresa.
  • Tourist transport from Ollantaytambo station to Cusco (Plaza Regocijo).

Admission ticket

  • Admission ticket to the Inca city of Machu Picchu.

Train tickets

  • Return train schedules are subject to availability. The schedules we work with are the Expedition train at 18:20 or 21:50.
  • Transporte público o private Ida y Vuelta.
  • Caballos de Carga para la Ruta del Ausangate.
  • Camping equipment.
  • All necessary camping equipment to ensure the comfort of our clients. One tent is provided for every 2 people. The tents we provide are spacious, with an initial capacity for 4 people, but are used by only 2 people. Mats (matras) with a thickness of 5 centimetres are included.

Infrastructure of the camps

  • We have camps established at each camping location. In Soraypampa, the tents are set up inside a shelter to protect our customers from the cold. In Chaullay and Santa Teresa, the campsites are spacious and have open areas so passengers can enjoy their stay in each place.

Accommodation

  • The package includes a basic hostel in the town of Aguas Calientes.
  • All rooms have private bathrooms.
  • Hot shower.
  • Wi-Fi.
  • Breakfast.
  • Snack to carry, including juice, a cheese sandwich, biscuits, and 1 fruit.
  • NOTE: If you want to book your own hotel or work with any specific hotel, let us know so we can coordinate the details.

Support staff

  • Official Tourism Guide certified by DIRCETUR, with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Groups larger than 14 people are accompanied by a second guide (group maximum capacity of 18 people).
  • Cook specialized in high-mountain cuisine.
  • Horses to carry all camping and kitchen equipment, plus 5 kilos of belongings for each passenger. The passenger's luggage weight also includes the weight of their sleeping bags (only for the first 3 days).

Power supply

  • All food required during the tour is included.
  • 4 breakfasts, 4 lunches, 3 snacks (tea time) in Soraypampa, Chaullay, and Santa Teresa, including chocolate, mate, coffee, milk, tea, popcorn, and biscuits, 4 dinners, and coca tea to wake up every morning in the camps.

  • Breakfast on the first day.

  • Lunch on the last day.

  • Boiled water during the tour.

  • Transport from Santa Teresa to Hydroelectric.
