Itinerary
-
Day 1: Johannesburg – Lowveld & Greater Kruger National Park
Depart from Johannesburg at 06h30, and our journey leads us on some of the most scenic roads down to the Lowveld region of South Africa, known as Mpumalanga.
Stop for a brunch stop en route in the historic town of Dullstroom, known as the fly-fishing capital of Southern Africa and notorious for the best trout dishes (the local fish species).
After our brunch/lunch stop, we continue our journey down the Drakensberg escarpment via Abel Erasmus Pass and into the untamed Lowveld.
- The road will take us on a windy pass through high rising mountain cliffs as well as passing some waterfalls if there has been some rain.
We spend the next two nights at a lodge, which is situated in a private reserve within the Greater Kruger National Park, allowing us the opportunity to see animals and already start experiencing the beauty of this country.
Meals Included: Dinner (Lunch own expense)
Driving Distance: 480 km
Accommodation: Greater Kruger National Park
-
Day 2: Lowveld & Greater Kruger National Park
Enjoy an early morning coffee and rusks as we watch the sunrise.
Embark on a bushwalk, where we get to experience the ways in which the animals move around and to learn more about the smaller, intricate details of how everything in nature fits together.
- This morning we will focus on the tracks and signs that the animals leave behind as they go about their daily lives and also to point out any interesting facts along our walk. Our guide and/or tracker lead all walks. If we encounter animals on our walk, it would be a bonus as their senses are usually just better than ours.
Before the heat of the day, we slowly make our way back to the lodge where we will enjoy our brunch.
- Head out for a game drive later in the afternoon, when it starts cooling down a bit as the animals become more active.
- Here we will cover a bit more distance and gives us a great opportunity to spot some animals. Keep your eyes open as we will be searching for some of the animals that inhabit the area.
- After our game drive, we slowly return to the lodge to enjoy our dinner and to share some stories around the campfire about the things we have seen today.
Meals Included: Light Breakfast, Brunch, and Dinner
Driving Distance: 20 km
Accommodation: Greater Kruger National Park
-
Day 3: Panorama Route - Hazyview
Wake up with the sun and enjoy a substantial breakfast before setting off.
Explore the beauty of the infamous Panorama Route, stopping at most of the highlights.
Some of the highlights today include the third largest canyon in the world, known as the Blyde River Canyon, then we move on to Bourke’s Luck Potholes, Gods Window, and stop for our own expense lunch in the little town of Graskop.
The panorama route really offers some of the most unique and captivating scenery in South Africa and we will spend a good amount of time at each stop to make sure we enjoy what we see and get the full experience.
Depart to Hazyview in the afternoon where we will settle in for the next two nights.
Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner (Lunch own expense)
Driving Distance: 196 km
Accommodation: Hazyview

Day 4: Kruger National Park
Get up early as we want to enter the Southern Section of the Kruger National Park as soon as we can, for our full day of game viewing. The Southern section of the park offers the opportunity to see some different species of animals like rhino, wild dogs, herds of buffalo, and elephants as well as other predators like lions and hyenas because the South usually has a bit more water, naturally attracting more animals.
Our day is dedicated to driving around in search of these animals, however, we will stop regularly at some of the parks’ rest camps for some leg stretches and comfort breaks as well as some waterholes on the route.
Late in the afternoon, we exit the park and head back to our accommodation for the night.
Meals Included: Light Breakfast, Dinner (Lunch in the park own expense)
Driving Distance: Roughly 100 km (Depending on what we see today)
Accommodation: Hazyview
-
Day 5: Back to Johannesburg
After a relaxed breakfast, we depart Hazyview and make our way back to Johannesburg.
The tour will end in the late afternoon on arrival at the Lodge.
Meals Included: Breakfast (Lunch own expense)
