Itinerary

Arrive at Islamabad
- Arrive at Islamabad Airport. Meet & greet your Pakistani trekking guide.
- Drive on the Karakoram Highway to Narran /Besham.
- Stay overnight in a hotel.
Narran / Besham –Hunza Karimabad;
- Drive through the gorge between Indus & Hunza rivers to upper Hunza.
- En-route visit the trinity of Himalayas, Hindukush and Karakoram.
- Enjoy fascinating views of Nanga Parbat (8,125 m) & Rakaposhi (7,788 m).
- Overnight stay in camp.
Hunza / Passu Shmshal Valley
- Begin your day with a short ride atop a 4x4 jeeps from Passu village coursing through the narrow gorge of Shimshal river towards Shimshal valley.
- Arrive at the ‘Travellers Hut’ at Ziarat for a pitstop.
- From Ziarat, you can see Karoon 1 (7164m) peak. You will also have a beautiful view of Dastagil Sar (7885m) from here. Shimshal is one of the remotest areas of Karakoram.
Shimshal – Pasth Furzin/Gar Sar
- Traverse through the narrow gorge of the Shimshal River for the next 2 days with your Manglik Sar tour guide.
- Enroute enjoy views of Kunianchish and Yazgildoom peaks both of which are 7000m above sea level.
- Camp overnight in Furzin. (5/6 hours)
Pasth Furzin - Arbab Parian/Gar Sar
- We start from the camp with a steep ascend of 200 meters on the cliff facing the camp, traverse gradually for half an hour and then descend steeply to the Shimshal River.
- You will take a footbridge to cross the river and thereafter walk for another hour to Pariyan camp.
- Lunch will be served at Maidur Nullah.
- Hike further for one and half hours to ascend to the top Pariyan Sar, fascinating views of the Manglik peak and other summits is your payoff for today.
- Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.
Arbab Parian – Shunjerab
- Walk along the river with the spectacle of peaks soaring above 6,000 meters. You will pass Ganj Dour Valley, leading to the north of China border.
- Camp overnight (4/5 hours)
Shunjerab – Manglik Base Camp
- Trek to the east of Shunjerab, to Gulchi Washk (carpet of flowers), from here a 200 meter gradual ascend will take you the main ridge of the Manglik Sar.
- Set up camp under the main ridge of Manglik Sar, our tour guide will assist you in this process.
- Walk over to Shuwart summer settlement, you will be introduced to local cuisine here.
- Camp overnight. (4/5 hours, 4735m)
AT the Base Camp of Manglik Sar
- Base Camp Rest day for acclimatization and to explore the area. You will again visit some local houses.
- Visit Shuwart glacier which is a visual delight.
- Camp overnight.
Manglik Sar 605m Base Camp
- This day is reserved for the trek to Manglik Sar (6050m),
- Begin your trek under the soft morning light, you will ascend gradually for the first few hours and eventually reach the main ridge leading to the summit.
- At 5,800 meters you will leave the ridge and head toward the snowy peaks
- Enjoy the fascinating view of the valley from the top, on a clear day one can see K-2 on your east.
- Descend down to base camp. (9/10 hours excursion).
- Overnight stay at Camp
Attempt Day and back to Base Camp:
- Another full day to attempt the peak. On this trek to Shimshal Pamir, there is an option to climb the Manglik SAR 6050m or other two peaks around or who do not want to make the summit can trek around or to Shuwerth. Here we take you for the ascent of a 6,050 m trekking Peak. It is an easy trekking peak that does not require technical things just to needs to travel the team in rope. It is one day climb normally with 1500M ascent and 1500 descent.
- Enjoy a special campfire arranged that night with local music and dances to celebrate the successful attempt on the peak.
- Camp overnight stay.
Shimshal pass Shuwart - Arbab Parian:
- Trek through the same route.
- Pass through Shuwart.
- Camp overnight. (5/6 hours)
Arbab Parian – Maidur:
- Follow a stream flowing from Shuwart to Maidur. There are many summer settlements in Maidur Valley.
- Pitch your tent at a small settlement having only two or three houses.
- Camp overnight. (4/5 hours)
Maidur – Shapodin Pass 5150m:
- Start early in the morning to cross Shapodin Pass (5150m).
- The climb up to pass is not technical and one can climb it with the help of walking poles only. Passu Peak (7478m) Shispar Peak (7611m) and Dastagil giant are visible from the Pass.
- After crossing the Pass, arrive at Shapodin.
- Camp overnight. (7/8 hours)
Shapodin – Over Boisam pass to Mandik Shlaq:
- Cross Boisam Pir Pass (5090m). It is an easy trek up to the Pass. Kanjut Sar (7760m) is visible from the Pass. After the pass, there is a beautiful lake of blue water. Enroute a short stay for rest and lunch at Pachodewashk.
- Proceed towards Mandikshlakh
- Camp overnight. (5/6 hours)
Mandik Shlaq – Werbin:
- Start after breakfast. Enroute stay at Havdiji and have lunch with the locals.
- Proceed towards Werbin.
- Camp overnight. (4/5 hours)
Werbin - Chafchingol Pass Base Camp:
- Cross three small rivers on this day of the trek.
- Camp overnight. (5/6 hours)
Trek Over Chafchingol Pass To Kuksail KKH:
- Start early and pack your lunch. Today's trek will be long and strenuous. From the base camp, a steep slope of 300 meters rises up to the Chafchingol Pass ( 5151m). You can see Dastagil Sar (7885m) from here.
- Reach on KKH at Kuksil (4150m) just 15 kilometres from Khunjerab Pass. The area is in Khunjerab National Park. Our vehicle will be ready in Kuksil to take us to Hunza.
- Proceed to Hunza.
- Overnight stay at the hotel. (5/6 hours trek +2/ 3 hours drive)
Drive Karimabad – Besham/ Narran:
- Get driven in an AC vehicle on the Karakoram High way towards Besham.
- Have your lunch in Dassu./ Narran
- Proceed towards Besham/ Narran.
- Overnight stay at a hotel. (11/12 hours )
Drive Narran/ Besham – Islamabad:
- After breakfast, you will be driven to the Federal Capital.
- Spend half a day in Islamabad after lunch. You are free to explore yourself in the evening free.
- Overnight at Hotel. (5/6 hours)
- Get transferred to the airport for your onward journey.

19 Days Trekking Climbing Peak Manglik Sar (6050 m,) Shimshal Pakistan, Asia

Shimshal which is called the land of mountaineers and high mountain passes has many things to offer to tourists around the globe whether it is cultural festivals or adventure activities. Like the other festivals, the people of Shimshal celebrate the Kuch festival which is one of the most important and well-celebrated festivals in Shimshal. It is celebrated twice a year, the first in spring when the people of Shimshal bring their livestock to high Pamir pastures where they live for five months grazing them and the second is when they bring back them to the village.

During their stay at the high pasture “Pamir”, they collect yeast, cheese, and butter for their families to be used in the harsh winter season. The most interesting and joyful moment is when they return back to Shimshal and one can see the joy and happiness of being reunited with the rest of the family members. This moment is celebrated when shepherds return with thousands of sheep, yaks, and goats. All the villagers get together to welcome their loved ones back to the village. Following their hundreds of years old tradition of goat sacrifice at the Shimshal Bridge is a way to express their gratitude to Allah for a safe return of their family and herds from the high pastures. This event takes place between 15th and 18th October every year in Shimshal Valley.

Safety rope and other required climbing equipment will be carried by the mountain tour guide.

What To Bring

GEAR AND CLOTHING LIST fOR MEMBER TO BRING

For Trekking GEAR & Clothing

While on an organised trek, it is best to pack all items for your trip in one large piece and one carry on. The large piece must be a duffel bag (weighing not more than 12.5 Kg.) because duffel are easier for porters to carry. A small day pack is suggested as carry-on to keep items that you will use during while on the trek, bus or jeep.

Luggage

N Large duffel bag with lock. It is not recommended to put your stuff in backpack as the straps might get damaged while being transferred from bus to jeeps, jeeps to campsites and during loading and unloading by porters each day. A small padlock that fits through the zipper of your duffel bag is recommended.

N Day Pack. Large enough for camera gear, cap, sun glasses, water bottle, jacket and other items you may like to use while on the trek.

N Extra carry-on. For storing city clothes in Skardu.

N Money Belt. A small fanny pack, money belt or around the neck passport bag is suggested for keeping safe your passport, travel documents and money.

Packing list for your Duffel.

N Sleeping Bag. As we shall be sleeping for four nights at Concordia at 4,700meters or at Snow Lake and Hispar Pass at 5151meters above sea level, so the bag should be rated for 0 degrees F or -18 degree C. Ratings are all relative since the amount of insulation needed for a particular person to stay comfortable depends on their rate metabolism. A down bag will be warmer for its weight and pack smaller but does not retain its insulative properties when wet. A waterproof breathable shell or a bivy bag will keep the bag dry. A synthetic bag keeps you warm even when wet and is a less expensive alternative, but will weigh more for a given amount of warmth.

N Trekking Boots. The single most important item on this list. Never take brand new boots on a trek, make sure they are well broken-in before departure. Good trekking boots are hard to get in Pakistan. If you are buying a new pair from abroad, look for medium-weight boots of fabric or a fabric/leather combination. They should provide adequate ankle support. A Vibram or other deep-lug will protect you from rocks and add support. Always use thick socks when trying shoes so that you get the correct size. Short shoes can jam your toes painfully during steep descents. You could also try to get new “Grouted” shoes that provide protection against water and are good while walking in rain or through snow. Make sure you can fit crampons on your shoes, as it is vital for crossing different passes.

N Camp Shoes. Jogging shoes or sneakers to slip in at the end of the day. Tiva sandals are ideal for this trek, as you can use them while crossing streams and also at the campsite for strolls.

N CramponsYou may need crampons on certain treks, sometimes only for one day. It helps in having a better grip on hard snow to have crampons fitted to your boots. Look for easy to fix ones. ( Check with us for your specific trek if you need the crampons or not). From our regular trek list, you would need to bring crampons for Gondogoro La, Biafo Hispar, and Wartum Peak

N Thermal socks. The socks you wear are a critical element. A cotton/wool combination is useful while on the glacier, and for warmer conditions, cotton socks are best. For hose who are sensitive to wool synthetic/cotton socks are recommended.

N Liner Socks. A thin, wickable material. Polypropylene, Capilene, Thermax, and Drylete all work very well. Silk does not work nearly as effectively as any one of the above.

N Polyester Fleece/Pile Jacket or Pullover. Stays warm even when wet.

N Polyester Fleece Pants. Good for afternoon strolls, same as above.

N Rain gear. A rain suit available from the local market is best for rain, doubles as windbreaker, and fits over pile jacket and pants.

N Wicking Long Underwear (tops & bottoms). Wick moisture to keep you warm and comfortable and dry quickly. Two suits are a good idea.

N Ski Hat. Covers your ears properly, use one with cotton liner. The woolen cap is also good.

N Mittens or Gloves. Woolen gloves are useful when at higher elevations and during windy conditions, when temperature drops quickly.

N Brimmed Sun Hat. Very important for this trek, as when we start the trek and till we arrive at Concordia, we are generally walking towards east. This can be annoying in the morning as the sun is low and hits your eyes.

N Bathing Suit. Men can take baths by the rivers or occasional lakes in ablation valleys.

N Toiletries. Keep everything you normally use. Just remember to bring effective sunscreen, chap stick /lip balm, skin lotion and laundry soap.

CLOTHING

With your knowledge of Pakistani culture you are well aware of precautions to be taken while traveling through remote areas. Cloths for the trek should be durable, comfortable, and easy to wash and dry. In good weather, you will spend much of your time in a T-shirt or medium shirt and outdoor trousers. You will need warmer clothes for an evening in the camps. Temperature falls rapidly as soon the sun goes down.

Men could wear shorts once we are through the populated areas, that means from the third day of trek. Women are advise to use cotton shalwar kameez (loose long shirts and baggy trousers) the traditional Pakistani dress, as these are comfortable during warm conditions, and also appreciated & respected by the locals.
