Description
Sign up for the Bumdra trek in Bhutan, one of the most beautiful short-duration treks in Bhutan, with only one-night camping in the wild. Visit the National Museum of Bhutan and hike Taktsang Monastery, also called the Tiger's Nest, for the spectacular views. Explore the numerous sacred and holy caves on your way, where the angels convened; that is why it is also called 'The Trek of the Thousand Dakinis' (celestial female beings).
Itinerary
-
Day 1: Explore the Paro Valley
- Meet the tour guide and the driver, who will be waiting for you at the Paro International Airport to welcome you.
- Check into your hotel after a briefing and introduction. A quick rest, and you can start your cultural extravaganza from the National Museum located just above the town.
- Take your time to casually browse through the National Museum, where an intriguing collection of artifacts serves as a great introduction to the rich culture and heritage of the Kingdom. Some artifacts even date back to 2000 BC. Afternoon and evening are an opportunity to acclimatize to the rarefied air at this altitude and to get to know your guide and driver, who will accompany you sightseeing for the rest of the day, depending on your interest and energy level.
- Walk around the town in the evening and notice that clusters of quaint farmhouses embellish the beauty of Paro Valley. The small handicraft and souvenir shops will mesmerize you with the unique handicrafts of Bhutan.
- Drive for about 20 minutes till you reach the road end at Sangchhoekor Buddhist College, perched on a hilltop at 2,800 meters.
- Visit the temple, and you can also interact with the monks, most of whom speak a little English. It is a beautiful hike with sweeping views of the Paro Valley, the Himalayan ranges, and meadows adorned with prayer flags till you reach the campsite just below the Bum Drak Monastery.
- Rest and relax at your campsite, or hike a little uphill for sweeping views of the surrounding landscape.
-
Day 2: Hike to Visit the Taktsang Monastery
- Enjoy the beautiful sunrise from your campsite, and after a hearty breakfast, start your hike towards the sacred Tiger’s Nest Monastery. The trail is through forests of rhododendrons and pine trees and is a moderately leisurely hike. Most of the tourists only visit the main temples at the Tiger’s Nest. However, you are a lucky few to be able to visit the temples on the top, particularly the Zangdopelri temple. Zangdopelri means or is the mystical Glorious Copper Colored Mountain of Guru Rinpoche, and you can enjoy a bird’s eye view of the other temples far below.
- Hike down to visit the main temples and gradually climb until you reach the base, where your vehicle and driver will wait to take you to your hotel.
