Itinerary

Day 1- Akagera National Park
Our first visit will be the Akagera National Park. Set at a relatively low altitude along the Tanzanian border, this National Park is a delight to see for its breezy cultivated hills, acacia bushes, panoramic views across scattered grassland and a mosaic of swamp-fringed lakes along the meandering Kagera river. Akagera is also unique in Rwanda as it's the only Savannah environment in the country.
You can spot large herds of buffaloes, impala's, zebras, topi, antelopes, elephants, hippo, crocodiles, baboons, leopards, hyenas, blue monkeys, vervet monkeys here.
You can also go on night drives here for observing other nocturnal wildlife.
-
Day 2- Nyungwe National Park
Today, you will visit Nyungwe National Park - a mix of bamboo, grasslands, swamps, and bogs. Spot mountain gorillas, a variety of primates and birdlife here. Spread across an area of 970 square km, Nyungwe is Africa's best-preserved rain forest area with over 310 bird species and is one of the most important bird-watching destinations in Africa. In reality, the Nyungwe forest area is over hundreds of thousands of years old.
-
Day 3- Volcanoes National Park
On your last day, you will see the Volcanoes National Park - famous for tracking mountain gorillas. One can also see Rwanda’s highest point - Mount Karisimbi (4,507 m) and two other active volcanoes of Mount Nyiragongo and Mount Nyamuragira. The headquarters for this park is based in the nearby village of Kinigi. This is the administrative centre for taking all permits and where visitors usually gather in the morning for briefings before going on gorilla treks.
If there is time, and you are interested, you can climb up Mount Bisoke or even hike to the summit of Karisimbi mountain.
