Sinharaja Rainforest Trek from Colombo
2.00 AM - Meet your tour guide at your hotel in Colombo and begin the tour.
6.00 AM - Reach Deniyaya/Kudawa.
6.30 AM - Prepare for a 4 km trek in the gloomy and misty rainforest, where you can find endemic trees, insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. Put salt on your shoes beforehand to keep the leeches away.
7.00 AM - Learn more about the rainforest. There is a constant buzz from the millions of creatures that call it home. Out of all the insects, the cicada might be the loudest.
9.00 AM - Expect high humidity and sudden rainfall in this biome. Rain jackets will be provided. Walk the slippery path under the four-layer canopy at a slow pace, and be sure to look out for animals. Try to find the endemic green pit viper and hump-nosed viper, and marvel at the variety of amphibians, including tree frogs. Invertebrates that can be found include the common birdwing, butterflies, and leeches.
11.00 AM - Enjoy a packed lunch at a stone terrace after diving in for a refreshing bath at the waterfall. You can also enjoy jumping from the top of the waterfall.
12.30 PM - Spot birds on your way back, as well as the giant squirrel and, perhaps the most observable of mammals, clear views of purple-faced leaf monkeys in groups of 10-14 high up in the forest.
Transfer to Colombo in the evening.
