Start your trip from Yangon, driving north east for about 2 hours to the ancient capital of Bago (Pegu).
Visit the charismatic monastery of Kya Khet Waii, an eminent teaching center for hundreds of monks, from neighboring regions to study Buddhism. You will have ample time to observe the monks walk mindfully in procession, for their last meal of the day.
See Shwemawdaw Pagoda ,which has a stupa inlaid with diamonds and is Bago’s golden landmark.
Witness Shwethalyaung Buddha, which dates from 944 AD and is revered throughout Myanmar as the most beautiful Reclining Buddha.
Explore Kyaik Pun Pagoda, with four 30 metre high Buddha figures, seated back to back.
Proceed to the Kanbawzathadi Palace, home to the former King of Bago, King Bayinnaung. It was built in 1553 in the south of the Shwemawdaw Pagoda.
An optional visit is included on the way back to Yangon at the British War Cemetery near Htauk Kyan.
