Day 1: Tarangire National Park
Visit Tarangire National Park, one of the hidden jewels of Tanzania. This park measures 2,600 sq km and boasts a concentration of wildlife second only to Ngorongoro Crater. It features an impressive amount and array of birdlife and plant life.
Situated only 160km's from Arusha; the park is nestled to the south of the large open grass plains of southern Masai land. It is named after the Tarangire River, which runs directly through the center of the park and is the only permanent water source for the animals.
Along the banks of this river, you will find herds of wildebeest (or gnu) and zebra, followed by Grant's gazelle, Thomson's gazelle, and many others.
-
Day 2: Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park lies in Northern Tanzania and covers an area of about 14,760 square kilometres. It was first established in the 1920s and was made a National Park in 1951. It is renowned throughout the world as an area of great wildlife viewing. It is particularly famous for the huge herds of wildebeest and zebra migrating every year following the rains in search of new grass.
To the north lies Kenya and the Masai Mara Game Reserve, which forms the northern part of the Serengeti ecosystem.
-
Day 3: Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Ngorongoro Crater is a large volcanic caldera that plays host to an advanced ecosystem perfect for inhabiting and preserving a wide variety of animals, from the aptly named king of the jungle, the lion, to the ever so rarer horned beast, the rhino.
It has a land area size of around 8,288 kilometres square and was originally established as a National Park in 1959. In 1979, the park received the honouring title of a World Heritage Site to ensure that the uniqueness of the Ngorongoro remains protected and preserved.
-
Day 4: Lake Manyara National Park
Lake Manyara National Park is one of Tanzania's most dramatically located African wildlife animals areas, consisting of a shallow soda lake (covering two-thirds of the park) at the foot of the Great Rift Valley's western escarpment.
Lake Manyara National Park's varied shoreline contains a wide variety of habitats, including lush groundwater forests, a swampy fan delta, acacia woodlands and a small grassy plain.
This varied habitat attracts a wide variety of wildlife animals, including one of Africa's largest concentrations of elephants, and the algae growing in the lake attract large flocks of flamingos.
