Itinerary

1. Day 1: Surabaya or Malang – Ijen Crater/Plateau

   • Transfer from airport or hotel or train station in Surabaya or Malang to the small town of Bondowoso or Banyuwangi regency where the Ijen Crater is located. The journey takes approximately 6-7 hours by a private car with air-conditioning with possible stop for lunch at a local restaurant on the way.

   • Arrive at Bondowoso or Banyuwangi for your overnight stay.

2. Day 2: Ijen Crater/Plateau Tour

   • 04:00 AM: Travel to the village of Licin and then continue to the slopes of Mount Ijen, passing through plantations and rainforest. This is one of the few remaining on the Island of Java with giant ferns, plants & big trees. This journey takes approximately 1 hour from the hotel by private car.

   • Arrive at the parking area of Mount Ijen. Ascend the slope of Mount Ijen to reach the peak of Ijen Crater and along the path, you will enjoy the stunning natural scenery with fresh air. 

   • Rest on the edge of the crater at an altitude of 2883 meters and enjoy the best panorama of the lake of sulphate. The sulfur mining workers go down into the crater and climb back up through a dangerous path on the edge of Ijen Crater with a load as much as 80 kilograms on their shoulders. This is a really dangerous & hard job. Do not forget to take pictures in this area as a proof that you have visited one of the most amazing places on earth.

   • Descend the slope of Mount Ijen until the vehicles parking area for the travel back to Banyuwangi city for lunch at a local restaurant.

   • Continue our trip to the Mount Bromo area for about 4-5 hours.

   • Arrive in the Mt. Bromo area, you will stay with overlooking views of the active volcano of Mount Bromo, Batok and Mount Kursi around the Tengger region for your enjoyable stay.

3. Day 3: Mount Bromo – Surabaya or Malang

   • 4:00 AM: The 4WD (JEEP) will bring you to the world’s most famous viewpoint at Mount Pananjakan on the rim of the Tengger caldera to see the sunrise over Mount Bromo and an active Mount Semeru in the background.

   • Continue to the sea sand of Mt Bromo’s slope to the parking area of the 4WD vehicle (jeep). 

   • Ascend to an active Mount Bromo volcano by horse riding or on foot.

   • 08:00 AM: The 4WD (JEEP) will bring you back to the hotel for breakfast, shower, packing. Load bags to the vehicle and then transfer out to Surabaya. 

   • 09:00 AM: Leave Mt. Bromo to Surabaya or Malang which will take about 3-4 hours.
