Arad to Cenad through Mures Floodplain Natural Park
Begin with a morning drive on the left bank of the river Mures. With some caution, because the area through which we move all day is natural and also protected - Mures Floodplain Natural Park. The first stop will be the habitat of the European ground squirrel (Spermophilus citellus), where during summertime it can be seen in the wild. This species is found only in a few places in Europe. The tour continues throughout the area, looking for the magnificent white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla).
Then, we halt a little longer, admiring the buffalos at the Buffalo Farm before proceeding to the Visitor Centre in Pecica.
The next stop is in the center of the Mures Floodplain Natural Park - the Bezdin area - where a small path through the Integral Protected Area, also the wildest part of M.F.N.P., will give us a chance to see the big herbivores in situ and, with luck, the albino fallow deer (Dama dama), a very rare phenomenon in nature.
The tour then continues to the next objective in the Periam-Cenad area, namely admiring the European roller - Coracias garrulus - another rare species, visible only in summer.
