Café Tour of Budapest
Start at Vorosmarthy square, in the heart of the city. Visit the Café Gerbeaud, that stands tall after 150 years of it's beginning. This traditional coffeehouse started back in 1858, and it is one of the greatest coffeehouses in Europe today.
From Café Gerbeaud, take a tram ride near Danube to Café Central. This oldest Vienna-style café-restaurant is an open space for writers, musicians, artists, journalists and poets since 1897. Enjoy the architectural styles of the interiors and have a taste of the delicious Esterhazy cake and other desserts.
Move to the Museum Café, which has been in operation since 1885. Prominent clientèle used to regularly visit this cafe including many Members of Parliament, distinguished writers and famous Hungarian actors. The lavish walls here are covered with tiles with the world-famous Zsolnay porcelain works. Watch out for the grand 19th century Venetian mirror here.
After another short walk, enter the Urania Cafe to see a mix of Arabic and Moorish architecture styles. This building houses one of the oldest Film Theatre in the city.
Next, walk towards Blaha Lujza tér, on the big boulevard to reach our next sight, the elegant New York Cafe. This one of the most beautiful Cafe Houses in the world.
Walking tour ends at Muvesz (Art) Cafe on Andrassy Boulevard, opposite the Opera House. Here, one can always watch out for celebrity actors and actresses, who regularly visit this place from the nearby Budapest Broadway.
