Walk through Victoria's historic Downtown

Victoria is a beautiful seaside multi-season destination. I hope to share with you some stories of the characters who brought this city to life from the time of the Hudson Bay Company fort in 1843 through the building spree of the gold rush period that has created such picturesque streets and vistas. It is a city that walks like a town. We will start our tour in historic Chinatown. This is Canada's oldest Chinatown; in the late 1880's it was our largest. We will have a look at historic murals, the Gates of Harmonious Interest, and Canada's narrowest street - Fantan Alley. From the north of downtown, we will proceed south on picturesque Government Street to view heritage retail stores from a hundred years ago. We will stroll the Inner Harbour, continuing our journey of architectural gems, island history, and the origins of Canada's Pacific people and even glimpse the glory of their visual story through the traditions of totem poles. Today we offer the visitor a year-round destination with Canada's only sub-Mediterranean climate. One of Victoria's most famous women kept a monkey named Woo. Do you know who that is? Visit me in Victoria on tourHQ to find out the answer. I am excited to show you around Canada's west coast jewel.
