- Insights into Icelandic history, culture and lifestyle with your local expert guide
Description
We will start this Online Experience at the striking Sun Voyager artwork by the seaside, set against the backdrop of the mountain views over the bay. Then we will commence our walk, talking about a range of local trivia from the settlement of the Vikings to the unique ways in which people in Iceland heat up their homes.
We will then visit the big church on the hill, the imposing Hallgrímskirkja, and learn more about religion in Iceland, discuss the progressive nature of the people and talk about the history of the city with its firm belief in equal rights. Following these themes, we will walk by the Government building, and also explore the preserved houses, the oldest school in Iceland, and what is simply known as "the pond." I will tell you about the Althingi, the the world's oldest working parliament, and get to know about the kitchenware revolution and the former oldest house of Reykjavik.
The tour will end at the so-called hub of Reykjavik, where all measurements to and from the city take place - the perfect place to say goodbye, till we meet again.
