Highlights
- Real-time, live walking tour of the important monuments of Belem
- Insights into the voyages of exploration embarked on by the Portuguese
Description
Take a trip into the glorious past of the Portuguese maritime expansion as I walk and live stream through the streets of Belem in Lisbon.
The most impressive symbol of this era is, without a doubt, the magnificent Monastery of Saint Jerome, built on the location from where Vasco da Gama set sail to discover the sea route to India. The beach that saw him depart is his burial ground nowadays.
Not too far is another important symbol of the city, the Tower of Belém, a jewel of the Manueline art and tremendous importance because of its defence purposes.
Learn about the voyages of exploration and envision the routes of the Portuguese on a world map on the floor as we admire the statues of the most prominent personalities represented at the Monument to the Discoveries.
