As one of the oldest cities in the world, existing for over 5000 years, Acre has played a central role in the history of the Mediterranean. Sitting on the intersection of three continents and accessible by both land and sea, Acre has been a constant point of conflict for empires, kings, and conquerors throughout the ages. From Alexander the Great to Richard the Lionheart and Napoleon Bonaparte, all sought to control Acre and her ports.
Walking through Acre's old streets, I will take you to visit the places where history happened and delight you with stories of a city that helped shape our world. As we journey through the city, you will see all the ways in which it is a mixture of civilisations and cultures living side-by-side harmoniously; from the massive walls surrounding the city to the amazing Khans (caravanserai) and old markets and ports; and learn why it has not once been abandoned in 5000 years.
