Description
Takayama was established by the family of Kanamuri. We are a town of 90000 people located between Tokyo and Osaka but host a lot of guests; last year we hosted 4.7 million visitors!
We will start our Online tour from the Old Town that feels like a step back in time. I will explain why we have open water drains and heated chimneys. I will show you unique sights such as wooden houses with low second floors, and floats that revere Ebisu San and the god of fisheries over a 300 year old tradition. This tradition is unique to our town and you will hear all about it.
Take a stroll over a picturesque red bridge to see the remnants of our castle that was once made of wood. You will see more than 60 tiny shrines around the city to pray against fire; our city is prone to a lot of fires since all our houses are made of wood. We will pass by the town museum and the place where we have our morning markets. I will show you dumpling shops and warehouses storing the floats before moving into the modern part of town, features unique to our city. We will end our tour at the Shinto Shrine and offer our prayers.

Meet your Host
Yama
I was born in Takayama and have been working as a tour guide since the past 5 years. I have a team of more than 5 guides who support our tour; they can speak French, Italian and Spanish, and English. Let me introduce the history and culture of this area and some very interesting facts about us as well! Did you know that that seven sake breweries are densely packed in this area? Even if there are 7 sake breweries within 200m, and each brewery has the same ingredients, each one has distinct different tastes! I am happy to be born in this area because I can drink a lot of delicious sake every day.
