Description

Join me on this exciting, live-streamed Online Experience to explore Recife, the capital of the Pernambuco region of Brazil.

We will begin our virtual tour at the Arsenal Square. From here, we make our way to the oldest commercial street called Bom Jesus Street, where I will enter the Giant Puppets Museum to show you some of our Carnival traditions. At the Marco Zero Square, we will understand a bit of Recife's history and see the new restored ports, warehouses, handcraft stores with restaurants, pubs and museums. We will also stop to admire the reef barrier protecting the ports entrance and then continue on a pleasant walk to where the first bridge of Brazil was built.

We will end our tour at the Republic Square to view a giant African Baobab tree and the Brazil Wood tree (from where the country derives its name), the Governors Palace, the Palace of Justice and the Santa Isabel theatre.

Meet your Host
Leonardo Ferreira

I have worked for over two decades as a tour guide, and it was during this time I found that enthusiasm is my greatest quality. Sharing my knowledge about this beautiful country with its remarkable culture fills me with joy! As a tour guide I have had the opportunity to hear many points of view that helped me balance history, geography, religion, and economy inside Brazilians northeastern culture. What makes it further more interesting and challenging is to explain this big mix to a foreigner. The society I live in has many African, European and native influences that gives a special taste to our folklore, culture, food and way of life.
