Description
Join me on this live-streamed Online Experience, and together we will visit the most renowned attractions of Tirana - virtually!
We will start our walk through town at Skanderbeg Square and move on to the Main Square that won the prestigious "Best Urban Public Space" award in Barcelona in 2018. At the Opera House, see the Stone of Friendship which Nikita Khrushchev inaugurated to commemorate the relationship between Albania and Russia, and at the National Museum, admire the beautiful facade of the mosaic "The Albanians".
On our next stop, I will point out frescoes of the E'them Bey Mosque, built in the 17th Century, telling you more about its depiction of trees, waterfalls, and bridges as a rarity in Islamic art.
As we move further along, you will get to explore the Complex of the Ministries constructed in the 1930s. The complex starts from the central plaza and goes all the way along the main plaza, "Deshmoret e Kombit". In stark contrast is the architecture of the Castle of Tirana, also known as the Fortress of Justiniani, a remnant of the Byzantine era that dates to before the 1300s.
We will also make a quick stop to explore the Orthodox Cathedral "The Resurrection of Jesus Christ" before ending our tour at the Surveillance Museum, which is dedicated to the innocent people who were spied on, arrested, prosecuted, convicted and executed during the Communist Regime.
