Among the most striking man-made features of Jaisalmer, "the Golden City", is the Gadisar Lake, located in the Thar Desert, almost 30 km from Pakistan's border. In this online experience, we will explore this beautiful artificial lake and learn more about how Maharawal Gadsi built it in the 14th Century to solve problems involving the scarcity of drinking water.
As we walk around, I will show you some of the special characteristics of this beautiful place. In the middle of the Lake, we will see a platform which serves as a performing space for dancers and musicians. I will also show you another place on the lake, designed especially for the King, Queen and their guests to relax and enjoy the cultural programmes. The lake is surrounded by beautiful mountains that render it picturesque at all times of the day and affords an even more compelling view around sunrise and sunset.
