Description
Four kilometres to the northwest of the Lijiang Old Town, at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, lies a compact village is hidden in the forest, the Shuhe Ancient Town. UNESCO has listed it as an important component of Lijiang as it is a well-preserved example of a town along the ancient tea route and one of the earliest settlements of the ancestors of the Naxi people. It is called 'the hometown of springs'.
The town is dominated by the architectural styles of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. We will begin our virtual walk from Sifang (Square) Street and will pass by souvenir shops. It is one of the oldest bazaars in Lijiang and it is full of daily hustle and bustle. Not far from here, we would be able to see the Qinglong Bridge, considered as the best of the ancient bridges in Lijiang. Qinglong Bridge has been of great importance in the economic and cultural development of Lijiang throughout history. Now, it has become the most popular wedding photo point for young couples and for photo studios.
Walk alongside the beautiful canals, which will lead us to the source of Shuhe, the Dragon Pool. And, then we will head to a Buddhist temple near the water source. Definitely, this ancient town has magnificent landscapes, but it also has many enthralling shops to explore, such as Yunnan Tofu, Flower cake shop, Tea shop, Silver and Leather shops, Music cafe and restaurants.
Shuhe is one of the beautiful old towns in Lijiang, and I am really excited to explore it with you!
