Description
This live online experience is based on a visit to the main monuments in the Old Town, a beautiful juxtaposition of Ottoman architecture and Austro-Hungarian influences.
We will go around the old town square and learn historical facts about the White Fortress, the Yellow Fortress, the City Hall, and the Spite House. Walk with me through the food street, where you will be introduced to two of the most famous dishes that Bosnia and Herzgovina have to offer, Cevapi and Burek.
At the Coppersmith Street, I will show you the oldest arts of Sarajevo and demonstrate how we make Bosnian coffee, a delicacy made special by the fact that each ingredient is still made by hand today. We will stop behind Sebilj (the wooden fountain) and Morica Han( famous shopping place for Ottoman hand-made carpets) where I will share some exciting facts with you that will surely make your trip doubly worthwhile.
Continue towards the biggest mosque in Old Town (Gazi Husrev Bey’s mosque) and the Lunar clock tower behind it. We will also see the famous Latin Bridge, and learn about the reason what sparked the First World War. After that, we will pass through Bezistan (Ottoman’s mall, similar to Kapali Carsi in Istanbul today) and stop by the Meeting of Cultures Spot in Sarajevo, thus gaining an understanding of the two different architectural styles made popular between 1463 and 1995. Behind this spot is the Jewish park, where we will learn about the history of Bosnian Jews. Our tour will end at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in downtown Sarajevo, where I will introduce the concept called Roses of Sarajevo (red spots all over the town) to you.
