Visit the Scenic Sights in Rovinj

Dear virtual friend, I will walk you through this coastal Perl on the eastern Adriatic coast, Rovinj. We will see the square with a small stone fountain which was placed there when the town first got its aqueduct. On this place was the sea until, in the 18th century, local authorities decided to create a square and close it. The square was full of pigeons when I was little, and we kids would run into one another while chasing these poor birds who always flew away from us. The entrance into the oldest and most protected part of the town is called the Balbi's arch, and it was placed here because of political ambitions pulling down the former fish market and a small private church. Walking through tiny cobbled streets, you will be able to admire very old, authentic houses which were built on the living rock when this part of Rovinj was an island. The most famous street is the street of the artists called Grisia, and when we are on its top, the church will be visible, usually standing on the top of the hill. The tour will go to the church and inside to see the marble sarcophagus holding the body of our local patron, Saint Eufemia. The legend is very interesting, and I will tell it when we stand on the spot where this sarcophagus arrived in the 9th century. From the church, we will go back toward the square and end our tour

Description

This live-streamed, interactive online experience will take you into the heart of Rovinj, also known as the pearl of the Eastern Adriatic coast.

We will begin our tour from the town square, which features a small stone fountain that was placed here when the town first got its aqueduct. Next, head towards Balbi's Arch, the entryway to the town's oldest and most protected part, constructed as a matter of political ambition by pulling down the region's former fish market and a small private church.

Walking down the narrow cobbled streets, we will see the old, traditional houses that were erected on the rocks back when this part of Rovinj used to be an island.

Next on our agenda will be a visit to the most famous street in town - the street named after the artist called Grisia. Once we reach the top, you will see the church on the top of the hill. Heading inside, we will see the marble sarcophagus holding the body of a local patron, Saint Eufemia.

Finally, we will circle back to the town square and end our tour with stories about Rovinj's colourful history.

Meet your Host
Romina Kuharic

I prefer calling myself a guide for life. Guiding has been my passion for almost two decades; yet it only seems like yesterday was when I started.

I love my town and the people here. I used to live abroad and tour groups from many countries. I like the fact that we all look for the same thing, and that is to be happy. Let me show you this charming old fishing town and how simple things can make life beautiful. Winter won't wait!

This year I started teaching English at school, and it's enjoyable working with kids, so they are welcome on this virtual tour as well!
